Everything Comment Presets adds: the Details panel section, how a preset changes a comment, each setting with its default, where the settings are stored, and the messages you may see.

The Comment Presets section#
Select a comment in a supported graph editor. The Comment Presets section appears in its Details panel.
| Part | Details |
|---|---|
| Empty state | No comment presets defined. with a pointer to Project Settings. The checkbox is hidden until at least one preset exists. |
| Prefix existing comment | Puts preset text in front of the comment's text instead of replacing it. This changes the project setting for everyone. |
| Preset cards | One card per preset, in list order: the preset name in bold, then its full text, on the preset's color. Cards wrap to fit, and each takes a full line in a narrow panel. Click a card to apply the preset. |
Cards show the presets as they were when you selected the comment. After editing presets, select something else and reselect the comment. The Details panel search box finds Prefix existing comment and Presets.
What applying a preset does#
A preset applies to every comment the Details panel is showing. Other selected objects are ignored.
| Preset Text | Prefix existing comment | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Empty | On or off | Only the color changes. |
| Text | Off | The comment's text is replaced. |
| Text | On | The preset text goes directly in front of the existing text, with nothing inserted between them. |
| Text already at the start | On | Nothing is added. The check is exact and case-sensitive, so another preset's label can still go in front. |
- The comment color becomes Preset Color, including its opacity.
- Font size, zoom bubble options, and move mode keep their values.
- Only comments that actually change are touched. Each click that changes something is one Undo step, Apply Comment Preset, covering every changed comment; a click that changes nothing adds no Undo step.
- The graph's asset is marked as modified; save it as usual.
- Changing the checkbox is a settings change, not a graph edit, so Undo does not reverse it.
Settings#
Open Project Settings → Plugins → Comment Presets.
| Category | Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behavior | Prefix Existing Comment | Off | Prefix the comment instead of replacing its text, for every preset. The checkbox in the Details panel changes the same setting. |
| Presets | Presets | Empty | The list of presets, in card order. |
Each preset has:
| Field | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Preset Name | Empty | The card's title. It is never written to the comment. |
| Preset Color | White | The color applied to the comment, including opacity. |
| Preset Text | Empty | The text applied. Leave it empty for a color-only preset. Shift+Enter starts a new line. |
Sharing the settings#
The presets and Prefix Existing Comment are saved in Config/DefaultEditorPerProjectSettings.ini. Commit that file so your team shares the same presets and behavior. Teammates receive the changes after syncing the file and restarting the editor.
When source control is connected, changing the checkbox checks the file out automatically. If the file stays read-only, the change lasts for this session only and a notification says so. After making the file writable, click the checkbox twice, or change any preset in Project Settings, to save the current value.
Supported graph editors#
| Editor | Availability |
|---|---|
| Blueprint graphs, including Level, Animation, and Widget Blueprints | Supported |
| Behavior Tree | Supported, one comment at a time |
| Sound Cue | Supported |
| PCG graph | Supported |
| Niagara script | Supported, in Selected Details |
| Material and Material Function | Not supported |
See Supported graph editors for tips.
Updating from 1.4.0 or earlier#
- Version 1.4.0 and earlier saved the checkbox for each user. Current versions use the project's shared value and remove the old personal value at startup, so the checkbox can show a different value after updating. Check it in Project Settings and agree on the value with your team.
- The settings page moved from the Engine section to Plugins.
Messages#
| When | Message |
|---|---|
| The settings file is read-only | A notification that Prefix existing comment changed for this session only because the settings file is read-only, and a matching Output Log warning. |
| The first start after updating from 1.4.0 or earlier | An Output Log line saying the personal value was removed, with the project's value. |
The Output Log category is LogCommentPresets.
Limits#
- A preset sets color and text only.
- One prefix setting applies to every preset and every team member.
- Prefixes from different presets can stack.
- Material and Material Function editors are not supported, and the Behavior Tree editor takes one comment at a time.
