Separate one piece#
- Select an instance in the viewport or Mesh Instances panel.
- Right-click the component and choose Break to Static Mesh Components.
- Confirm the dialog is processing the selected instances.
- Leave Remove the instances that were broken out enabled unless you intentionally want both copies.
- Apply and inspect the result.
The other instances stay in the group.
Separate the whole component#
Clear instance selection before choosing Break. The dialog should show that it will create a component for every instance.
Selecting every instance also counts as breaking the whole component. Check the count before applying.
Understand the keep option#
For a whole-component break, keeping the source leaves it hidden with collision disabled.
For a partial break, keeping the selected source instances leaves them visible alongside the new components. This creates overlapping copies. Remove one set if you did not intend that result.
Check what carries over#
The new components keep the mesh, materials, placement, collision, mobility, shadow settings, and receives-decals setting. Other properties use defaults.
Work with large groups#
Break Warning Threshold controls when the dialog warns about creating many components. Consider breaking only the pieces you need to edit separately.
The whole break is one Undo step. Inspect the result and compile and save the Blueprint when ready.
