Convert to Instanced Mesh is missing#
Select a plain static mesh component with a mesh assigned. Already-instanced, empty, or non-mesh components do not offer the conversion.
Convert is disabled in the dialog#
Read the skip reasons. Root, inherited, painted, or otherwise unsuitable components may leave nothing eligible. Also check Minimum Instances.
More groups appear than expected#
Compare the selected meshes, material overrides, mirroring, and collision settings. The dialog shows each proposed result.
A component with children is skipped#
Include eligible children in the conversion, or untick Delete original components. Review the hierarchy before proceeding.
Painted detail is missing#
Components with painted vertex colors should normally be skipped. If Skip Meshes With Vertex Colours was disabled, use Undo and retain those painted components.
I cannot click an instance#
Use Enable Instance Editing or press Enable in the Mesh Instances panel. For the level viewport, also check Project Settings → Editor → Level Editor → Enable viewport static mesh instance selection.
The panel shows another component#
Use Show Instances on the intended component. An open Blueprint editor with an instanced component selected keeps pulling the panel back to that component: deselect it there, or turn off Panel Follows Selection.
Dragging moves the instances instead of the component#
Check instance selection and Highlight All When Component Selected. Selected instances receive the gizmo edit.
Breaking out pieces creates overlapping copies#
For a partial break, leave Remove the instances that were broken out enabled. Otherwise both the source instances and the new components remain visible.
Blueprint references break after conversion#
Review the dialog's graph-reference warnings. Update nodes that referred to deleted originals, or undo and choose a smaller conversion.
