Set up a pool#

Use a Physics Volume Box and enable Water Volume. Size the box around the swimming area, with its top edge at the water line.

Test a Character that supports swimming. Tune Fluid Friction for movement resistance and check the transition both into and out of the pool.

The visible water mesh and the movement volume are separate parts of the setup. Resizing a surface mesh does not resize the volume.

Create a low-gravity field#

  1. Add and size a Physics Volume Sphere.
  2. Choose Scale World Gravity.
  3. Set Gravity Scale to 0.2 for a fifth of world gravity.
  4. Test a Character falling through it.
  5. Leave the field and confirm normal movement resumes.

A scale of zero removes gravity from affected movement; a negative scale reverses it.

Choose absolute gravity#

Use Absolute Gravity Z when the area should use a fixed vertical gravity value instead of following the world's setting.

Check movement support#

Characters and Default Pawns normally update their physics volume. For custom movement, check Should Update Physics Volume and test the intended actor during play.

If two effects overlap, give the volumes different priorities. See Overlapping volumes and multiplayer.
