Open and navigate#

Open Quick Search with Ctrl+T or Tools → Quick Search. Type part of a name, choose a result with the arrow keys, and press Enter. Escape clears the text first, then leaves a list opened from a result, then closes the popup. Pressing Ctrl+T again or clicking elsewhere also closes it.

Ctrl+Enter reveals the result: an asset, or the asset that owns a function or variable, is selected in the Content Browser. Opening a function or variable takes you to its Blueprint; opening a level actor selects and frames it.

Use the filter menu in the search field to include engine content, engine plugin content, or project plugin content. Project content is always searched, and the same menu has Rebuild Index. If an asset is missing, check these switches before changing its name.

A leading content path narrows the search to a folder. For example, /Game/Characters jump searches for jump-related results there.

Make broad searches useful#

Start with two short words, such as player health. If assets obscure the function you want, use f:health. Use v:health for variables, c:damage for comments, or l:guard for level actors.

To search a known owner, use player.health. Use Alt+Shift+T to limit the popup to what you are editing.

Understand missing results#

Search preparation can take time on a first launch or after project changes. Newly created Blueprint members appear after compiling the Blueprint. Quick Search helps you navigate to declarations and comments; use Find in Blueprints to locate every call to a node.
